Privacy Policy for Hush

Effective date: October 11, 2026 · Version 1.0.0

Summary

Hush is built with a strict privacy-first architecture. Hush does not collect, transmit, sell, or monetize any user data, browsing history, audio streams, or personal identifiers. The extension executes 100% locally on your computer inside your Chromium browser.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • No personal identifiable information (PII): We do not ask for or collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or device identifiers.
  • No browsing history tracking: We do not monitor, log, or transmit the websites you visit or the audio/video media you play.
  • No audio interception eavesdropping: Volume gains are adjusted locally via the browser's native Web Audio API and HTML5 media elements. No audio samples are ever recorded, analyzed, or sent over a network.
  • No third-party analytics or trackers: There are no Google Analytics, telemetry libraries, ad trackers, or third-party tracking scripts bundled in Hush.

Permissions & Justification

Hush requests only the permissions strictly required to provide individual tab volume control and tab organization:

tabs

Used to read tab titles, URLs, favicons, and mute states to present them in the popup interface, allow jumping to audible tabs, and apply volume settings.

storage

Used to save your volume levels (0% to 100%) and custom category overrides locally on your device via chrome.storage.local so they persist when you restart Chrome.

tabGroups

Used strictly when you click "Organize tabs" to bundle loose browser tabs into native, color-coded Chrome Tab Groups.

Data Storage

All preferences (per-tab volume, group volumes, and custom category assignments) are stored solely in your local browser sandbox through the Chrome Storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your computer.

Open Source Transparency

Hush is an open-source project licensed under the MIT License. The entire source code is publicly inspectable and auditable on GitHub:
