Everything You Need to Manage Tab Sound

From independent volume sliders to native Chrome Tab Group integration, Hush delivers studio-grade acoustics inside your browser.

🎚️

Individual Tab Volume Control

Adjust any browser tab's volume independently from 0% to 100%. Use precision mouse scrubbing, keyboard shortcuts, or mouse-wheel scrolling without affecting system-wide sound.

🔊

Dual Audio Interception

Controls HTML5 <audio> and <video> tags and intercepts Web Audio API AudioContext pipelines with an exponential GainNode multiplier to prevent clipping or popping.

📂

Automatic Activity Categorization

Tabs are classified into 8 activity domains: Entertainment, Music, Work, Study, Gaming, Communication, Social, and Other. Master sliders let you mute entire groups at once.

🎯

One-Click Focus Modes

Apply pre-configured acoustic presets (Study, Gaming, Meeting) in a single click. Hover over any mode to preview which tabs will be prioritized or muted before applying.

📑

Native Chrome Tab Groups

Synchronize your browser with Chrome's native chrome.tabGroups API. Turn 50 unorganized tabs into clean, color-coded native tab groups with one click.

🚀

Technical FAQ

Everything you need to know about Hush's permissions, performance, and privacy.

No. Hush operates 100% client-side. There are zero remote servers, zero analytics APIs, and zero tracking cookies. All volume settings, focus preferences, and category overrides are persisted locally on your machine via chrome.storage.local.

Hush injects a light, high-performance main-world hook into the tab's AudioContext and webkitAudioContext pipelines. A master GainNode is interposed before destination, applying exponential transitions (setTargetAtTime) to eliminate popping sounds and audio degradation.

The tabs permission is required to list open tab titles, read favicons, inspect audible status, and activate or switch to a specific tab when clicked in the Now Playing HUD.

Yes. Hush is fully built to the Manifest V3 standard and works identically on Google Chrome, Brave, Microsoft Edge, Arc, Opera, and other modern Chromium browsers.
